The Lost Archive allows the player to learn more about the past of Lucy Stillman and Subject 16 – the mysterious assassin who, similarly as Desmond Miles, is a descendant of Ezio Auditore da Firenze. The expansion leads the player through a series of environmental riddles based on the Animus action puzzles. Animus is the machine for the virtual projection known from the base game.

Compared to the original version released in 2002, the remastered version has a much better graphic design, thanks to the use of the Sam Engine 3 engine.
