Airhead is a metroidvania realized in a platformer convention. The game was developed by the independent Danish studio Octato and published by HandyGames.
Plot
Airhead takes us on a journey to a fantastic, dystopian world. During the game, we play the role of the Body, which lives in symbiosis with another organism known as the Head. When the mysterious machine deprived the head of the heart that provided him with oxygen, the first decided to save him from death and help him recover his lost organ. In this way, the couple got tangled up in an intrigue of a much larger calibre, and during a dangerous journey they will discover numerous secrets of a land gradually overtaken by technology.
Mechanics
In Airhead, the action was shown from the side perspective. During the game, we travel through various interconnected locations creating a world resembling a vast labyrinth. Among them are dark caves, ancient ruins, and outposts filled with technology. In each of these places, numerous environmental puzzles and field obstacles await us. The obstacles include those that require close cooperation between the two protagonists, as well as various platform sections that require dexterity.
Since the Head is not permanently attached to the Body, it can be used in various ways. One of them is to use it like a balloon that floats in the air or stays on the water surface when the body examines what is underneath it. However, the matter is complicated by the fact that air is gradually escaping from it, so you have to regularly use tanks to fill it with life-giving oxygen.
As they progress, the heroes develop their abilities so that they can not only get to new locations, but also unlock previously inaccessible parts of already visited places.
Technical aspects
The graphic design of the Airhead game has been maintained in an eye-pleasing, cartoon-like style. Although the whole thing is colorful, most of the locations are bathed in shadows, which creates a unique atmosphere enhanced by soundtrack.
