Lost Valley is an expansion for the turn-based RPG Solasta: Crown of the Magister. With the debut of the add-on, Tactical Adventures studio introduced not only a new story campaign, but also enabled players to play in co-op mode.
Free upgrade and co-op
The release of the paid expansion Lost Valley was followed by an update to the main version of Solasta. It brought with it improvements, some new content (including the Dungeon Maker editor) and, most importantly, an online co-op mode. It allows two to four players to play together over the Internet.
Co-op in Solasta is not a completely separate game mode. The saved game state files are compatible with both it and the single player mode. What's more, co-op allows all participants in a session to access DLC content without each player having to buy it individually. All that is required is that the host of the game owns it.
Plot
Long ago, when the Rift opened, many of the inhabitants of the Manacalon Empire rose up to fight an unnamed horror. However, not everyone showed courage. There were those who stayed behind to defend their domain from the new threat and bands of looters.
Still others, uncertain of their allies' victory, sought refuge in the Dominion Valley. Though even they were surprised by the scale of the cataclysm, the valley became a refuge where the ancient traditions of Manacalon survived. However, none had the opportunity to share them with the outside world. Anyone who ventured into the valley, ruled by a tyrant with an iron hand, never returned alive. Perhaps the players will have more luck?
Game mechanics
Lost Valley hasn't introduced any revolutions in the game. Solasta: Crown of the Magister is still an RPG with strong references to paper role-playing games, where we lead a group of heroes in turn-based battles. The basic mechanics have remained unchanged, including the use of environmental elements and the emphasis placed on character traits and talents.
This is not to say that Lost Valley is just another story to explore. The new location brought with it previously absent environments populated by giants, golems, and other enemies that were in vain in the base game. It is therefore necessary to modify previously used tactics in order not to succumb to these enemies. These innovations are also available in Dungeon Maker mode.
Fortunately, the add-on also brought with it new character subclasses. Each of the nine classes (seven from the base and two introduced in the Primal Calling DLC) gained access to new specializations with unique abilities. Barbarians can enter the Path of the Claw and possess the powers of dragons, while sorcerers can use the help of evil spirits haunting them.
Game modes
Solasta: Lost Valley introduces a new campaign Dominion leads us to one of several endings, which encourages multiple playthroughs of the add-on.
