Passing By: A Tailwind Journey is an adventure game with survival and platformer elements. It's the debut game of the independent German Studio Windsocke, co-published by Dear Villagers.
Plot
Passing By: A Tailwind Journey is set in a fantasy world of floating islands, where western wind is constant. The game's protagonist is a young balloonist named Curly, embarking on a long journey to deliver a mysterious letter.
Mechanics
Passing By: A Tailwind Journey is a side-scroller. The game revolves around Curly's travels, as she arrives at successive islands to acquire resources needed to continue on. Islands are home to diverse landscapes, as well as their residents and other travelers we can talk to. There are also numerous puzzles Curly must solve to progress, as well as platforming challenges requiring agility and good reflexes.
Inventory management is extremely important as well, as an overloaded balloon can't fly. Once we're satisfied with what we've done on a particular island, we can get in the basket and continue our journey. Due to the wind blowing only in a single direction, returning to previously visited islands is impossible.
In addition to necessary resources, we'll also acquire cosmetics which let us customize our balloon's appearance.
Technical aspects
The colorful visuals of Passing By: A Tailwind Journey make use of an appealing, cartoonish low poly artstyle.
