Metro Exodus offers a well-thought-out system for collecting raw materials and improving existing equipment. The most lucrative "goods" to be improved, however, are schematics and items that will improve our armor, helmet or gas mask. Improvements of this type fundamentally change the statistics of the item and e.g. unblock more space for carrying ammunition or grenades with you. How do I get such improvements?

Most of the improvements for armor, helmet or gadgets can be found by completing optional tasks, which are marked with an appropriate symbol on the map. It's often there that we can discover additional items, save captives who will tell us about the location of the upgrade, or simply find an upgrade in one of the rooms.

It is worth to search the additional locations very carefully, as they often hide valuable items or upgrades. It's easy to see if we've already acquired more important items in a given place - if you picked up the most valuable finding, the question mark or any other relevant symbol will disappear from the map.
