Between the Stars PC

Between the Stars is a game with elements of strategy and rougelike games. The player takes on the role of a spaceship captain who protects the civilization from aliens. This is the debut production of the Spanish studio Isolated Games.

Plot

In Between the Stars, the player takes on the role of a starship captain, belonging to a civilization concentrated in the central part of space. The task is to defend the empire from the outer space invaders, the group called the Children of the Sun.

Mechanics

The main aspect of gameplay in Between the Stars is the exploration of procedurally generated space and completing missions assigned by the command. Battles are fought in real time. Before starting a battle, players must select one of the available of captains. Each of them has his own set of skills, which influence the fight. It is also important that the death of commanders is permanent. If he dies in combat, he is replaced by another character with different abilities.

The chances of victory in battles with the opponent is also influenced by the chosen ship. With the progress of the game, the players get access to the next ships. Each one of them features different properties and special attacks. After a victory, the player earns experience that can be used to improve the ship and its captain. In this way, vessels can be further improved and their combat efficiency increased.

Taking care of one's subordinates is also a very important part of the game. Each ship must have a sufficient number of crew members. If someone dies in combat, players need to hire someone to replace them. Maintaining the proper functioning of the ship also requires taking care of the morale and safety of one's team.

Technical aspects

The world shown in Between the Stars and the missions are both generated procedurally. As a result, each playthrough takes a different shape and the battles are more diverse. The whole is complemented by realistic visuals.
