For The Warp is a turn-based strategy enriched with solutions taken from roguelike games and clearly outlined elements borrowed from the card games genre. The game was developed by the independent Massive Galaxy Studios.
Plot
For The Warp tells the story of a group of cosmic scum, whose task is to transport valuable cargo through a dangerous trade route. When the nearest gateway to the space-time tunnel is destroyed, our hero is left with no choice but to head for the next one. On their way, however, they have to face numerous dangers and discover numerous secrets hidden in interstellar space.
Mechanics
The core of the game For The Warp is the journey to the gateway, which leads us through various star systems. These are shown on two-dimensional maps covered by a grid of square fields. Moving our ship through them, we encounter, among other things, the ruins of an ancient civilization, as well as other ships whose crews may be friendly to us... ...or, on the contrary.
After encountering the enemy, we are moved to the battlefield; the clashes take place in turn-based mode and during them we can take a closer look at the participating ships. We use the cards that we collect as we progress. As the game draws five cards from our deck before the start of each round, the key to success is to gather a collection containing only useful ones.
In addition to gaining better cards, we are developing our combat potential by unlocking more and more advanced technologies and ships. Moreover, the places we visit are generated procedurally, which increases the replayability of the game.
Technical aspects
The graphic design of the For The Warp was made in pixel art technique. The game is accompanied by a synthpop soundtrack by Martyn Stonehouse.
