Classified: France '44

Classified: France '44 is a turn-based strategy game created by an indie British studio Absolutely Games. It lets players control a squad of Allied operatives and resistance fighters against the Nazis. The base game includes a mission creator and mod tools.

Plot

The game is set during World War II, in Nazi-occupied France. On the eve of Operation Neptune and the historic Normandy landings, a small squad stands up to fight the occupiers. The combined forces of the Allies and the resistance carry out heroic assaults and sabotages, awaiting D-Day.

Mechanics

Classified: France '44 is a turn-based strategy game in which we play as a small elite squad operating in occupied France. The player must monitor the map and participate in events in various parts of the country.

There are 45 tactical missions available, each providing lots of freedom in how to approach them. Stealth enthusiasts can avoid direct combat and eliminate foes quietly. Still, if too many foes disappear from the area, the remaining ones will get alerted. In direct encounters we'll wield a diverse roster of authentic weaponry (such as the Colt 1911 pistols or the Enfield No. 4 rifles), knives and explosives.

To succeed, we must plan our actions, use cover, flank enemies, activate special abilities and manage our action points. Classified: France ‘44 features a morale system, which affects both the heroes and the villains.

Between missions we can learn the characters' backstories and develop them towards one of four diverse classes with different abilities (specializing in increasing morale, increasing hit chance or other aspects). We'll also get to establish alliances with other factions while dealing with the Gestapo's growing interest.
