9-bit Armies: A Bit Too Far is a real-time strategy by Petroglyph, veterans of the genre known for such projects as Grey Goo, Conan Unconquered and Command & Conquer Remastered.
Plot
9-bit Armies: A Bit Too Far is the fourth game in the series and a sequel to the first game, 2016's 8-bit Armies. After experimenting with fantasy and science fiction in 8-bit Hordes and 8-bit Invaders, the developers returned to their roots and more down-to-earth battles.
The player takes part in a great war, leading one of two sides to victory.
Mechanics
9-bit Armies: A Bit Too Far is an isometric game. The player must command an army, taking care of resources, constructing their headquarters, important buildings and defenses.
Afterwards we must start recruiting an army out of infantry, vehicles, aircraft and naval units. All units have their own strengths and weaknesses, while the player needs to make use of the former and nullify the latter.
Battles are real-time, requiring adapting both to the enemy army and the terrain. It's worth remembering objects and parts of the environment are destructible, which both armies can use to their advantage.
Game modes
9-bit Armies: A Bit Too Far features two campaigns, playable solo and in co-op. There's also competitive multiplayer for up to eight people at once, both online and through LAN.
The game lets players create their own scenarios and modes to share with the community.
Technical aspects
9-bit Armies: A Bit Too Far, like the rest of the series, features colorful, voxel-based graphics, as a throwback to the roots of the strategy genre, dating back to the 8-bit era.
