Legendary Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi Will Return After 16 Years
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi is back. Bandai Namco has confirmed that it is working on a new installment of the iconic fighting game series starring Son Goku and company.
This is the kind of comeback fighting game fans weren't ready for. It seems that after 16 years Bandai Namco has quietly announced a new installment of the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series.
The game was announced during this weekend's world championships in Dragon Ball FighterZ. A trailer for the fourth game in the series is circulating the web, although surprisingly there is no mention of it on the publisher's official channels.
The video doesn't show much of the game itself, focusing instead on a nostalgic trip to previous installments. In fact, the presentation ofDragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4 (if that's what the game will be called) is limited to revealing the visuals (in "draft") and Son Goku's transformation into Super Saiyan Blue.
The return of this TPP arena fighting game came as quite a surprise to many gamers. True, the Dragon Ball brand has received quite a few new games in recent years, including the aforementioned and quite successful Dragon Ball FigherZ (albeit having balance issues on the competitive scene recently).
Nevertheless, the previous major installment of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi was released in 2007. Even if we'd include Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team for the PlayStation Portable console, it's still more than 12 years since the last installment in the series was released.
For now, we have not received any specific information about the game, target platforms or release date. We will still have to wait for the latter, as the project is in the early stages of work. We hope that the first details about the new Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi will be revealed soon.
