Baldur's Gate 3 , like its pen-and-paper original, allows players to incapacitate an enemy or a non-playable character without killing him. This option is available to all characters, however there are some limitations to it. On this page, we show how to Knock Unconscious a character and what actions can you perform with an incapacitated target.
How to incapacitate a character without killing him?
Open the tab described as "Passive" from the main character bar at the bottom of the screen. In the said tab, you should easily locate an icon described as "activate non-lethal damage". Clicking on this option will activate them for your whole party.
Remember! Non-lethal attacks will only work with melee attacks or melee weapon attacks. In order to keep the target alive, you need, therefore, refrain from using ranged weapons or magic.
After selecting the above option, attack the chosen target. The moment one of your heroes deals the final strike, the battle ends, and the unfortunate person loses consciousness, with one health point remaining and a temporary "Unconscious" status.
The game will treat an unconscious hero similarly to a dead character. This means that you will be able to, for example, rob the victim without any repercussions.
How to revive an unconscious character?
Unfortunately, despite various attempts, we have not been able to determine a clear way to "wake up" unconscious characters. Attempts based on healing spells or removing negative effects didn't sober up the unfortunate victim lying on the ground. Attempts based on pushing and inflicting damage on her proved to be just as ineffective.
At this point, the only option to wake up an unconscious character is to wait out the entire situation . After a long camp rest , the unconscious character usually regains consciousness. Be careful, however, because a previous conflict may cause the attacked character to feel dislike or even hostility towards you .
All the information collected leads us to believe that the option of rendering enemies unconscious is only a "cosmetic" addition that will allow you to better "feel" the character you are playing. Among the purely practical applications, an interesting one may be the issue of temporarily aggressive creatures , which after waking up may lose interest in fighting with your team.
