The Phantom Liberty expansion is integrated seamlessly into Cyberpunk 2077's main campaign. On this page of our guide, we explain how to start the first quest of Phantom Liberty expansion which involves a visit to Dogtown. We show how to continue playing with old saves or create a completely new V to be used in the expansion's storyline.

Using an old save or beginning Phantom Liberty right away

Phantom Liberty is an expansion that enhances the basic game with a new story campaign, as well as new side quests and activities tied to the new Dogtown neighborhood. You don't have to finish the main game first to get access to the DLC content.

You can start Phantom Liberty campaign in 3 main ways:

1. Loading one of your old saves from the base game - the new content will be available from the moment you load the save.
2. Starting a new game - you need to choose "normal start" from the main menu. This is a good idea if you want to experience not only the DLC content but all the changes introduced with patch 2.0.
3. Selecting Start with Phantom Liberty - this option will appear in the main menu when attempting to start a new game. We describe it in more detail below.

If you have chosen the Start with Phantom Liberty variant, you will start the game with a character tailored for the Phantom Liberty expansion. This will allow you to access the content from the expansion without having to complete the prologue and initial story quests. The basic assumptions of a ready-made V are:

1. You can modify certain appearance aspects of the expansion V - you can choose the origin and use the character creation wizard.
2. At the beginning, expansion V will be level 15 and have 15 Street Cred - this is enough to start the expansion, but some enemies in Dogtown may be on higher experience levels - they will be marked with skull icons.
3. The game will distribute Attribute and Perk points for you - nevertheless, the starting build achieved that way is not definite. It is possible to reset the character's development later, including its attributes. All development points will then be returned.

Initiating the first quest of the expansion - Dog Eat Dog

The Phantom Liberty expansion storyline is initiated with Dog Eat Dog quest - you can find a complete walkthrough for it in our walkthrough.

The expansion's first quest should begin:

1. after loading the base game save - there may be a requirement to advance enough in the base game storyline, especially its initial part.
2. immediately after choosing Start with Phantom Liberty option - you'll begin the gameplay in Pacifica and the quest should be available instantly.

In both cases, the mysterious Songbird character must call V. She will give you an invitation to the Dogtown district of Night City - this is where most quests of the expansion will take place.
