The gold chest is in BG3 near the Owlbear Nest. This guide page tells you how to open the chest safely and how to get the lost Selune treasure.

On this page of our Baldurs Gate 3 guide, we show how to open a Gilded Chest located in one of the side corridors of Owlbear Nest. Opening the chest requires the completion of a small puzzle involving finding and reading a prayer sheet and below we supply a complete solution to the problem.

Location of the Chest and Selune's shrine

1. The Gilded Chest and Selune's Shrine are objects that can be found in Owlbear Nest. This is an optional location from Act 1 of the game.
2. The main entrance to the Nest is located in a forest west from Druid Grove and northeast from Blighted Village - we show it in the screenshot above.

1. Upon entering the Nest, don't follow the main road leading to the Owlbear, but go west.
2. You'll encounter a chest (we show it in screenshot above). Opening the chest traditionally will mean receiving serious damage. The chest is secured with magic and lockpicks won't help here.

Finding the prayer sheet

1. You need to jump to a shelf next to the shrine - choose jump from bonus actions and the other side of the chasm as the landing spot.

1. Choose the party member with highest Perception and examine the area behind the shrine.
2. Successful completion of a Perception check will reveal a Selunite Prayer Sheet. Press RMB and choose to pick it up.

Reading the prayer sheet

1. Return to the gilded chest and place the hero who has the sheet close to it.
2. Open the inventory and choose to read the contents of the sheet, which is a prayer. If you were close enough to the chest the magical aura will be dispelled. You can now open the chest safely.

Contents of the chest

The chest contains:

1. Idol of Selune;
2. Moondrop Pendant;
3. Selunite Rite;
4. Bloodstone;
5. Silver Necklace.

1. Additional note - if you are traveling with Shadowheart, the cleric may warn you against plundering the chest and will oppose the action.
2. You can solve this in two ways - either send the cleric back to camp before opening the chest or complete one of Skill Checks (Insight, Intimidation, Persuasion) to convince her to back down.
